Facial Rejuvenation

Wrinkle Treatment

Wrinkles and facial lines result from ageing, muscle activity (and over-activity) and your genetic predisposition. In addition, excessive sun exposure, alcohol consumption, emotional and hormonal influences and smoking can also increase the likelihood of wrinkles. Whilst you may be able to reduce or control some of the factors, you cannot influence all factors, and that is why we develop some wrinkles with age.

Dermal fillers

As skin ages, both naturally and because of factors such as smoking, sun damage and poor diet; we lose collagen, fat and other natural moisturising substances from our skin. These can be thought of as the natural scaffolding that keeps our skin looking young and firm. As these are depleted our skin becomes thinner and lines, wrinkles and folds develop. Facial volume loss is one of the key factors in the ageing process, and dermal fillers can help to replenish this lost volume, and rejuvenate the face. Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance, define, or enlarge lips, and to shape and volumise the face by injection into cheeks, chins, and nose. Dermal fillers are non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to fill or replace the lost volume in static wrinkles, lines and folds that appear at rest, rather than those that appear during facial expression.

Obagi Nu-Derm System

The Nu-Derm system penetrates the skin’s surface to transform the skins appearance and help correct the damage within, revealing healthy, younger looking skin.
Skin ageing is a natural process, but daily sun exposure can contribute to premature ageing, slowing down of the turnover of skin cells between healthy new cells and old damaged cells.

Nu-Derm is ideal if you have:

  • Age spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rough skin
  • Skin laxity (loss of elasticity)
  • Erythma (redness)
  • Sallowness (yellowish complexion)
  • Hyperpigmentation ( discoloration)

Dermal Fillers

Young, healthy looking skin contains a naturally hydrating substance called Hyaluronic acid (HA), this is a clear gel and gives skin it’s elasticity. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists in almost all living organisms. It binds with water and is important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in the skin.

As you age sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. Lack of HA causes your skin to lose volume, creating unwanted wrinkles and folds, like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.

The  injectable gel replaces the HA your skin has lost, smoothing away wrinkles and folds. In addition fillers are infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.

The gel is injected into areas of facial tissues where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, which will give the appearance of a smoother surface.

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature and their duration is short lasting, usually 7 days or less. The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reactions such as; redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, discolouration.

Areas treated with dermal fillers are:

  • Naso-labial fold, nose-mouth line
  • Marionette lines, Vertical lines from mouth to jaw
  • Lip, cheek and brow enhancement.

Fine line and wrinkle treatments

Anti wrinkle treatments are muscle relaxants used to successfully treat facial frowns and lines by preventing muscular contractions that create wrinkles by forcing ageing and brittle skin to fold and crease.

They made from purified type A neurotoxin produced by the bacteria clostridium botulinum. It temporarily prevents the release of acetylcholine from sympathetic nerve terminals, ie. It prevents signals from travelling between nerves and muscles, stopping the muscles from contracting.

The visual effect of treatment is a smoother, softer looking face and visibly reduced lines and wrinkles. The treatment can instantly take years off your appearance. This treatment lasts between 3 and 6 months and takes approximately 20 minutes to perform. As muscle action gradually returns the lines and wrinkles re-appear and will need to be retreated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.

The specific muscle groups are specifically and skilfully targeted by qualified cosmetic surgeons to reduce or remove the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Anti wrinkle treatment is most effective at treating lines that are relatively new, the amount required will depend on how developed and ingrained the wrinkles have become.
